Go Racing In Yorkshire Summer Festival

The Go Racing in Yorkshire Summer Festival, now in its 6th year, brings together all 9 racecourses in the region for a week long racing spectacular of horseracing, live music, entertainment, competitions, and  open days’ starting on Saturday 20th July here at Ripon Racecourse and finishing at Pontefract Racecourse on Sunday 28th July. If you dream of owning your own racehorse or you’d like an exclusive look behind the scenes, there are two superb opportunities to explore this magnificent sport right here in Yorkshire. Visit Wetherby Racecourse on Tuesday 23rd July for a special Racecourse Open Day and take a tour of all those “off limits” areas not normally open to the public.  Meet some of the people who make it happen including; owners, trainers, jockeys and racecourse staff as well as a number of syndicate managers promoting racehorse ownership.  You can even have a go at simulated race riding on the equicisor (mechanical horse) – great fun for the youngsters or the young at heart! Of course no racing event would be complete without the stars of the show; you’ll be able to meet some syndicate horses currently in training and ex-racehorses now enjoying their retirement with the charity New Beginnings on the Yorkshire wolds. Racecourse Open Day starts at 11 am.  Please register for tickets at www.goracing.co.uk Thursday 25th July come and see a racing yard at work with a visit to one of the county’s top trainers, Richard Fahey.  Richard and his team are hosting a visit to his stables at Musley Bank, Malton and will give visitors an insight into what it takes to produce winning horses.  The visit starts at 10 am until 12. Both events will provide an informative and a special day out for everyone – children are welcome when accompanied by an adult. Tickets are available through Go Racing in Yorkshire but are limited, so book early to secure your place. There is no charge for the open day events but we do ask for a £5 donation per person (paid on the day) with all proceeds going to New Beginnings; a community interest company that provides a safe and supportive environment for ex-racehorses.
