News & AnnouncementsBen Mills billed again to rock at Ripon[ ] 'Following the success of last year’s first Rock at the Races event at Ripon Racecourse, clerk of the course James Hutchinson and his team are pulling out all the stops this year to offer ‘added value’ to their race meetings again with music featuring at all the evening, weekend and Bank Holiday fixtures in 2008. Two race meetings are dubbed Rock at the Races, on 9th May and 4th June, while Madness tribute band, Badness, features after racing on Ladies Day. These free concerts are included in the ticket price for the day / evening’s racing. Heading the bill at last year’s Rock at the Races was Ben Mills and following the popularity of his set, he has been invited back to play again at Ripon’s first ever Friday evening meeting on 9th May. After shooting to fame on the X-Factor, Ben Mills is rapidly becoming a major star in the British pop scene. His debut album; 'Picture of You' went straight into the charts at Number 3 last year. A natural performer, with a wonderful gritty vocal quality and incredible musicianship he is bound to delight his existing fans and attract many more. His concert following the racing at Ripon on 9th May is a unique opportunity to see him in concert in a fabulous venue prior to the start of his UK tour. The new set will include some of his now famous covers such as Maggie May and other material from his existing and forth coming albums. The gates open at Ripon Racecourse at 3.55pm on Friday 9th May, with a choice of catering facilities from takeaway fish and chips through to seafood and champagne to enjoy before the first race at 5.55pm. All six races at this meeting are sponsored by Satellite Information Services Ltd., a leading provider of picture and data sources to the racing and betting industry. The company produces live coverage and studio programming for At The Races on Sky Television, including action at Ripon. The feature race is The SIS OB Services Handicap Stakes over one mile and a quarter. |
