When Ripon Racecourse introduced their independent on course betting operators RiponBET back in 2013, racegoers and industry players questioned how this might benefit racegoers.
Four years on the move has given the Racecourse Executive the ability to do just as they promised and ‘Reinvest in your Racecourse’. With a significant contribution from RiponBET Racegoers have benefited from over £1m worth of improvements.
Ripon have invested in a variety of projects including; replacing their permanent big screen, completely relaying the hard standing in front of both the Club and Paddock Stands, full renovations of the Jim Joel, Claro & Theakston Bars before this year’s project saw a different audience benefit with a full refurbishment of the racecourse’s Owners and Trainers facilities.
The significant demand for increased facilities has come from the growth of the number of syndicate owners, with ownership becoming more accessible and affordable through such syndicate groups. The renovations of the Owner and Trainer’s facilities have benefited from a relocation of the bar to offer more internal space alongside a new food serving point. Externally the Racecourse have extended the upper balcony offering an improved viewing area that overlooks the Parade Ring, along with the addition of a new ground floor patio area with lounge style outdoor seating.
In addition the racecourse for their 2017 season have introduced a new scheme offering each owner and trainer (with a runner on the day), a complementary £10 refreshment voucher which as imagined has been greatly received. These vouchers can be used in the Owners & Trainers Bar, the Silks & Saddles Bar, the Champagne & Seafood Bar and the Club Dining Room.
The newly refurbished Owner and Trainer facilities were officially opened by ROA Chief Executive Charlie Liverton on Friday 12th May and has received outstanding feedback from Owners and Trainers who have been appealing for improvements.
Charlie Liverton, ROA Chief Executive said; “The new Owners & Trainers facility is a wonderful addition to Ripon racecourse and the ROA were delighted to be involved in its opening. Investment in new facilities like this for owners, the single-biggest investors in the sport, is crucial. We know from the 2016 National Racehorse Owners Survey that racecourse experiences have a direct impact on an owner’s tenure in the sport and, win or lose, owners need to be accommodated appropriately if they are to stay in the ownership ranks. Ripon’s new facility is sure to make the owners experience an even more memorable one and for that we send our thanks.”
James Hutchinson, Managing Director and Clerk of the Course at Ripon said; “For smaller Racecourses such as Ripon, building refurbishments are done with the intention of keeping its close nit and unique atmosphere along with the character of its picturesque setting. We believe we have achieved this and more with the redevelopment of our Owners & Trainers facilities and will now provide a much improved experience to our valued Owners going forward.”
Ruth Carr – Racecourse Trainer
The new owners and trainers facilities at Ripon are fantastic, we’ve seen vast improvements around the course over the past few years so it was great to see the Owners and Trainers area get an update too. Everyone has been impressed by the renovations and the complimentary food/drink voucher has been greatly appreciated. We love running our horses at Ripon and the new facilities are now up there with the best in the North!
